Cardiff Blues prepare to host rugby elite on new FieldTurf surface

The Cardiff Blues UK rugby team has a new FieldTurf surface to host the Celtic and European rugby elite at its Cardiff Arms Park home.

Cardiff Blues, winner of the Anglo-Welsh cup in 2009 and of the European Challenge in 2010, has chosen FieldTurf, a Tarkett Sports company, to provide its artificial turf solution.

The FieldTurf Optimum RGF 65 system is designed to provide players with a safe and high-performance surface. It features a soft and strong fibre designed to give with resistance and durability, giving the Blues the best long term solution for their players and supporters. The project will be carried out in conjunction with Tony Patterson Sportsground.

Cardiff Blues chief executive, Richard Holland, said: "The new surface will allow games to go ahead no matter the weather and hopefully enable us to play a more expansive and attractive game for supporters to enjoy. There is also the wider community to consider and our aim is to make the pitch available for teams in the Blues region to play and train on."

FieldTurf has installed more than 7,000 synthetic turfs worldwide, including football clubs FC Barcelona, Ajax Amsterdam, Paris Saint Germain and Borussia Dortmund.
